Explore a unique collection of more than 400 pieces of exquisite metal artwork from late 19th and early 20th century Damascus, Syria, and other Near Eastern regions, with Joseph B. Touma, MD, an otolaryngologist living in Huntington, West Virginia, USA. Born in Damascus, Dr. Touma vividly remembers, as a child, watching generations of skilled artisans painstakingly craft beautiful metal trays, vases, boxes and other elaborate pieces, using brass and precious metals such gold, silver and copper. But it wasn’t until he ventured back to Damascus as an adult that he fell in love with this unique art and felt compelled to start collecting it. Now, more than 40 years later, Dr. Touma feels compelled to share the immense beauty of his wonderful collection with the world.
